“Spinning Nature” is the name chosen to define the artistic journey of the Swiss-based artist duo of Mexican-born Ana D. Lombard and Finnish-born Noora Kulvik. They underline their deep conviction that we do not pay enough attention to the fragility of our planet’s natural resources : “Remaining a static viewer in the negative transformation of the planet should no longer be an option”.
The artist duo believe that the outcome of our actions has especially harmful repercussions on nature, because the socio-ecological system in which we live is extraordinarily complex. The balance between the humanity’s behaviour and our planet’s ecology, as they interact continuously, is now at a tipping point. It is essential for the artist duo to deliver a visual message of the aggression that nature, natural resources and humanity endure as a result of our actions. Ana D et Noora K exhibit regularly around the world and their pieces are a part of international art collections.

Refulgentia
Blinded by the illusion of infinite splendour
In our artistic work we want to represent the energies invisible to the eye. We take simple objects and subject matter in their raw form and want to capture their uniqueness in movement. We are looking to show how all particles become transformed from physical reality into a new form that is capsuled by the magic of photography. This permits the viewer to make a tangible connection and interlink between oneself and all Materia, living or dead. The abstraction through the movement that we are capturing we find to being a powerful way to represent that nothing is constant and being a bystander in the negative transformation of the planet should no longer be an option for any of us.
We represent change and the positive impact it may have in an aesthetic way by playing with the abstract and figurative. Contrasting micro and macro photography as well as static and moving. As artists we are not looking to give scientific answers to problems, but a visual stimulation to viewers who hopefully then would want to find scientific and practical answers to the issues of over-linked realities in need for solutions.
We have been working as a duo for years. With time we appreciate more how special it is to being able to create our photographic and mixed media pieces together. It is also this connection between us as two individuals that we have found important as society is becoming extremely individualistic. This has pushed us to want to work with the human figure trying to open the mind to seeing its vulnerability. Understanding that behind the strong carapace there is creature that is not omnipotent. We believe that in order to survive and thrive we need to work towards a common direction.

Lucidum
The search for aesthetic ways of representing movement is continuously the main focus of the Spinning Nature project, “Lucidum” (2018-2019) series is studying motion through light. The first series, “Metamorphoses” (2016-2018) displayed a dramatic, almost theatrical atmosphere. Associating bright colours with dark and shadowy hues letting the subject in question stand alone in the spotlight. We wanted to respect what and whom we decided to photograph hence have stayed open minded and flexible towards the results and seeing where the image of moving energy leads us.
In “Lucidum” we wanted to challenge ourselves by diving into light, letting the background merge into the subject. This enabled us to get a sense of transparency that was already noticeable in the metamorphoses series and woke a huge interest from our part. We started from the past with dark backgrounds, classical colours, now we are here in the deep seas of light, transparency, colour, juxtapositions of moving energy in still image, light and movement.
